According to John Joseph, lead singer of the Cro-mags and a stoic philosophy true example.
Attitude, equals gratitude.
This small phrase says so much in just three words that I found it just necessary to elaborate on the meaning of the short quote and try to understand it from a stoic perspective.
First things first, what is attitude and what is gratitude?
Gratitude could be described as a feeling of contentment and of a peaceful of well-being. Attitude is the way, usually positive, in which the person addresses reality.
They say as well that attitude is everything. I certainly believe so, attitude is your basic approach to life. Attitude is the how you choose to enjoy or suffer life. I’m sure you’ve had that feeling at least once in your life, the feeling of a mighty attitude.
A stoic is a buddhist, with an attitude.
Nassim Nicholas Taleb
Why would attitude equal gratitude? Gratitude is a conscious choice. One chooses to be content and appreciate what one has. From this standpoint one chooses to approach life in a better way, with a better attitude. Attitude springs from gratitude.
“The fool’s life is empty of gratitude and
full of fears ; its course lies wholly toward the
A grateful person embraces the moment.
Because the future is meaningless and unimportant to the person who can bravely face and make the most of the present. The present moment is, as Marcus Aurelius would say, all you need. It’s enough. Good or bad. Scary or exciting. A man must live in the present and face it with courage. Starting today.
What is the ultimate reason for gratefulness?
Your ability to practice it, which is, under your control. Your conscious endeavour .
“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.
And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.”
― Albert Camus
Today, choose to be grateful. Choose to approach life as a gift, and in doing so, live a life full of courage, virtue and greatness.
